Established in 1985 by Army Veteran Waddell McGee, the AVA was conceived as an organization for advocacy “For Vets By Vets.“ A grassroots organization, the AVA began with Waddell McGee walking and asking soldiers and veterans to fill out a rudimentary membership form – the organization today enjoys a large and diverse membership representing veterans and families from every branch of service. With a strategy of cooperation, coordination and creativity, the American Veterans Alliance works in conjunction with other veterans service organizations, nonprofits, corporate sponsors and government agencies to provide support and advocacy at national and local levels.
