Office of Inspector General, U.S. Department of Transportation

www.oig.dot.gov

Transportation plays a fundamental role in the lives of every American, connecting us to our communities, our jobs, and each other. The U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General (DOT OIG) conducts independent audits and investigations within DOT to enhance the management and execution of transportation programs. We support the Department’s mission to create the safest, most efficient, and modern transportation system in the world—one that boosts our economic productivity and global competitiveness and enhances our quality of life—by recommending improvements to DOT’s programs and business practices, referring criminal violations to the U.S. Attorney General for prosecution, and returning tax dollars to the U.S. Treasury for better use. We report the results of our work, which our stakeholders often use to improve DOT’s programs and operations, to DOT, Congress, and the public. Our work is accomplished through the expertise of approximately 400 committed public servants. Located in Washington, DC, and regional and field offices across the United States, our staff includes auditors, analysts, attorneys, special agents, computer scientists, economists, and experts in many other disciplines. For 2021, the Partnership for Public Service ranked us in the top 15 percent out of 432 equivalent Federal subcomponent agencies in its annual Best Places To Work in the Federal Government report. We value our commitment to fostering a culture of civility, diversity, inclusion, and fairness, and strive to provide employees with physical and psychological safety, opportunities for growth, and recognition for their outstanding contributions and achievements.
