As a permanent and broad-based cooperation body for proactive preparedness, the Security Committee works for comprehensive security. Tasked to assist the Government and ministries, the Security Committee is placed at the Ministry of Defence. If incidents and emergencies occur, it will act as a specialist body. The Security Committee continues the work of the Security and Defence Committee in the field of comprehensive security and preparedness in Finland. It is also responsible for the Security Strategy for Society which coordinates preparedness measures by the state, municipalities, organisations and the business community in various security situations. The Security Committee follows and coordinates the implementation of the Security Strategy for Society and the Cyber security strategy. The Security Committee has a Secretariat in which the expertise of preparedness from different sectors of the society is represented. The Secretariat is managed by the Security Committee. It assists the Committee, its members and experts, prepares Committee's affairs and from its own part executes Committee's decisions. Affairs brought to the Committee are prepared in cooperation with the ministries and government officials concerned. The Secretariat works also as a secretariat for the meetings of the Heads of Preparedness and for the meetings of the Preparedness Secretaries.
