In 1979 a group of women came together with a shared vision of a place where parents and caregivers could meet and discuss parenting, learn from each other, and share ideas while at the same time provide early learning opportunities for children. Belief in this vision led to establishing Our Place. Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement and Expression — foundational conditions important for families to grow and flourish — capture the essence of what Our Place is. That is what the last 40 are based on and why we remain vital to children, their families and the community. After years of steady growth and reaching many families in our community, in February 2003 Our Place became a lead agency for the new Ontario Early Years Centres (OYEC) program funded by the Government of Ontario. In September 2003 we moved to St. Francis School, Kitchener. The OEYC program has now undergone a transformation and rebranding to the EarlyON Child and Family Centres. Effective January 2018, Our Place became a sub-contractor in the delivery of the EarlyON system led by the YMCAs of Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo. We have moved our location to The Family Centre and we offer a variety of Our Place and EarlyON programs at this site and many other Mobile Site Delivery locations in the Waterloo Region. For many years, the motto for Our Place has been ‘Our Place is YOUR Place’. It truly is and this belief is embedded in the relationships we form, the programs and services we deliver, the community we build.
