www.sseess.orgPlease note that SSEESS closed down April 2017. Information and downloads remain available at www.sseess.org. The Swedish Secretariat for Environmental Earth System Sciences (SSEESS) is a collaborative partnership between the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (FORTE), the Swedish Research Council Formas, the Swedish Research Council (VR), and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). SSEESS strives to increase Sweden’s involvement in international research programmes and panels on Global Environmental Change (GEC) issues. As a result, Swedish research in global environmental change issues will be better integrated into international GEC programmes in the future. SSEESS aims to: - raise awareness of international GEC research programmes - improve opportunities for researchers in Sweden to participate in international GEC programmes - facilitate collaboration between international GEC research programmes and Swedish key-players such as science funders, politicians, and science managers. What is GEC research? Global Environmental Change (GEC) research programmes have, for almost thirty years, studied planetary-scale changes in the earth system such as - land - ocean - atmosphere - living organisms - earth system cycles - and deep earth processes As all of these natural systems influence each other to varying degrees, GEC research often addresses complex systems, including large-scale changes in society. Today it is widely recognised that research on earth system sciences requires knowledge from both the natural and social sciences.
