Unhack Democracy is a pro-democracy NGO and election watchdog that works to support electoral integrity in Europe. Comprised of a diverse team of data analysts, political scientists, journalists, artists and academics, we aim to empower citizens by giving them the tools and training to monitor their own elections and protect democratic institutions from state interference. Founded in 2018 to safeguard the democratic process in action, Unhack Democracy promotes the integrity of elections through cross-disciplinary and cross-border collaboration. The definition of ‘unhack’ is to “restore a broken system to a functional state or revert the effects of a security breach”. Our goal is to both uncover these democratic security breaches by state and foreign actors and bring about innovative citizen-led solutions to restore the system. Unhack Democracy is a registered non-profit in Belgium.
