EMPRESS, a non-governmental organization, was founded in 2008 as a platform for resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in the Czech Republic with a goal to promote and disseminate eco-efficient preventive environmental approaches. As such, it is recognized by the Ministry of Environment as the Czech national cleaner production centre. EMPRESS focuses on practical application of SCP approaches in enterprises and other organizations, as well as on policy advisory services for public and municipal sector. At international level, EMPRESS is involved in a number of initiatives, which enables to reach up-to-date information, knowledge, know-how and trends in the field of SCP and transfer it to national level. The initiatives include: • National reference centre for SCP and resources in a framework of EIONET network under European Environment Agency; • Founding member of global network for resource efficiency and cleaner production RECP Net (under umbrella of UNIDO and UNEP); • Member of PREPARE, a European network of professionals in a field of SCP (EMPRESS chaired the network in 2012 – 2014); • Member of EREK – European Resource Efficiency Knowledge Centre, current initiative of the European Commission in a field of resource efficiency. Recently, EMPRESS is involved into EBRD Green Cities initiative that provide assistance to cities in identification and evaluation of development projects in a variety of environmental areas including waste, water, land use, energy, etc.
