defy.sites.yale.eduDisability Empowerment for Yale, or DEFY, advocates for Yalies with physical disabilities, mental illnesses, chronic illnesses, temporary disabilities, and learning disabilities, and for veterans and members of the wider community with these disabilities. Vision: DEFY’s vision is to make Yale more accessible and welcoming to students with disabilities, both physical and mental, chronic and temporary. Primary Goals: 1) Start a Conversation. Bring to light the issues surrounding disabilities at Yale so that students, faculty, and staff can understand the effects of being disabled here and discuss how to make this community more inclusive. 2) Foster a Community. Develop a robust coalition to advocate for the disabled community, create support networks, host events and conversations, and invite speakers to campus to raise awareness. Fight for: —Greater accessibility compliance among student groups —A center for students with disabilities, with peer liaisons —A department/program for Disability Studies —Improved resources for students with disabilities And more!
