The non-profit organization, Leadership Advancement for Women in Sport (LAWS), was created to help girls and women advance in their sport or fitness interest, whether as an athlete, coach, official or participant. Founders of the initiative had noticed a Catch-22: despite the many strides females had made in sport, there were still barriers standing in their way; lack of female coaches, discrimination against women, media hype regarding perfect female bodies, etc., which had caused girls and women to be excluded from or feel uncomfortable about pursuing fitness or sports interests, and prevented the development of female leaders in the sports and fitness world. While LAWS is aimed at females in Windsor/Essex County, the initiative supports women and girls everywhere.
