We, a young bunch of art lovers were casually strolling on the streets in a famous market area in Delhi and all we could see at those wee hours, were grey and dull shutters all around us. It seemed extremely contradictory to see a marketplace this dull and quiet at night, when the only sight that we recall each time we think of a marketplace is, endless chatter and hustle bustle amongst people. At this point, we realized that we would like to create art on these shutters and make an effort keep up the cheer that a marketplace usually brings. Gradually, we moved on to paint a few shutters not only at marketplaces but even on picturesque locations, all with an intention to not only create artwork, but to also instill the importance of the environment and our surroundings among peers, even if in small volumes. Most importantly, We, in all consciousness need to realize that the ownership of these public spaces lie with each one of us and it depends on us of what we make of it. So, let’s come together and make these public spaces safe, beautiful and attractive, one shutter at a time!
