The Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEMA) is a non-profit Civil Society Organization of Public Interest, dedicated to producing and disseminating technical and scientific knowledge regarding urban environment impacts, with an emphasis on mobility, air quality, energy and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. Concurrent to generating technical inputs, the IEMA seeks to integrate with different civil society organizations and the government itself, always with the perspective of the enhancement and implementation of sectoral policies of common interest, improvements in environmental quality and the well-being of people. Created in 2006, today the Institute’s major supporters include organizations such as William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Oak Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Instituto Clima e Sociedade (ICS), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), as project funder. The IEMA’s mission is to contribute to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of public policies aimed at improving conditions of mobility and air quality in urban centers, and to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, particularly in the transportation and energy sectors.
