In 1990, Charles “Charlie” Ekstam began research to solve a problem that has plagued diesel engines since their inception – tank-sloshing or, in other words, the introduction of air and vapors into fuel during normal vehicle operations. When air bubbles and/or vapor are present in the fuel, the injection is delayed until the air/vapor is compressed to needed pressure. The delayed injection results in retarded injection timing, which causes increased fuel consumption, lower power output, and increased exhaust emissions, which can lead to fuel injection failure. By 1993, Charlie solved the tank-sloshing problem with the development of the first and only Fuel Air Separation System for diesel engines, trademarked as the Fuel Preporator®. From that invention, he and his wife, Dora Serrano, co-founded PureFlow™ Technologies Inc., currently a minority-owned company that now has a full array of fuel air separation systems for all makes and models of diesel engines that cover transport by land, rail and sea. Today, PureFlow has dozens of products that are specifically made for all popular diesel engines manufactured in the United States. PureFlow products are designed to reduce the infusion of air and vapors into the engine, increase performance through injection timing and fuel mileage, as well as protect the life and integrity of fuel injectors.
