SyAqua is a leading player in genetics and early nutrition for aquaculture. The current SyAqua nutrition business was first established in 1992 as part of Gold Coin group, while genetics business started in 2001 as a joint venture between PIC and SyGen to develop a genetic improvement program for shrimp (Penaeus vannamei). In 2010, Gold Coin fully acquired SyAqua to provide Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) shrimp for Asian farmers and improved genetics to support better performance under Asian conditions. In 2017 the SyAqua shrimp genetics business was merged with Gold Coin’s hatchery feed business, forming Gold Coin Biotechnologies (GCB). In 2018 the Gold Coin animal feed business was sold to Pilmico but the GCB businesses were retained under the SyAqua brand. This was the beginning of a transformation process enabling SyAqua to focus on its core strengths of genetics and hatchery feeds. With a new management team taking over in mid-2019, SyAqua has established a new strategic plan which aims to position the Company as a top 3 global player in genetics and early stage nutrition for shrimp and tilapia by 2024.
