Black Sea Energy Research Centrе
www.bserc.euThe Black Sea Energy Research Centre is an association of energy experts prominent in the different fields of the energy science and practice. The Centre was created in 2007 in Sofia, Bulgaria, as a non-profit organization, aimed to continue the achievements of the Black Sea Regional Energy Centre established in 1995 by an initiative of the European Commission and the countries of the Black Sea Region (BSR). In this sense, BSERC goes forward in the development of the co-operation between the BSR countries and Bulgaria on the one side and the European Union on the other side, in the energy field, and puts an emphasis on research. In the situation of new world energy and environmental realities, the Centre works on: * Harmonization of the energy legislation of the BSR countries and of Bulgaria with the EU aquis; * Collection and analysis of energy-related data at EU, national and local level; * Development and application of models, forecasts and scenarios; * Multidisciplinary research of energy consumers' behaviour; * Cost-benefit (socio-economic, environmental, etc.) analyses of policies, feasibility studies of projects, evaluation of financial sources and schemes; * Networking of research, policy and market actors in the BSR countries; * Training, events organization, public awareness, communication and dissemination. The organization's project record includes more than 60 projects, funded under various EC programmes: territorial cooperation programmes, Framework programmes for RTD (FP5, FP6, FP7), Intelligent Energy – Europe (EIE), Horizon 2020, and others. Additionally, BSERC has worked on initiatives, funded by USAID, the World Bank, CIDA - Canada, EBRD, and the Bulgarian Government. The domains of the BSERC activities include: - Security of energy supply; - Electricity and gas internal market, liberalization, pricing, tariffs; - Energy efficiency, rational use of energy, promotion of energy services; - Renewable energy; - Climate change mitigation policy.
