Stevens Student Managed Investment Fund
www.stevens.eduThe Stevens Student Managed Investment Fund (SSMIF) is a student managed, long-equity investment fund, managing a portion of the Stevens endowment. The SSMIF is a two semester course and is run by the student senior management with the help of our fund instructor and advisor, Professor Jonathan Kaufman and fund advisor, Professor George Calhoun. The SSMIF actively utilizes both a macroeconomic and quantitative strategy with the assistance of faculty advisors and the School of Business at Stevens Institute of Technology’s advisory board. The SSMIF—in conjunction with the Quantitative Finance program—was featured in a Forbes article: Turnaround University: Quant School on the Hudson. In 2018, the SSMIF went on CNBC to compete with stars like Kevin O’Leary in an investment challenge - “The CNBC 2018 Stock Draft”. Stevens finished 3rd in the competition out of 8 teams. Steve Forbes visited the Fund and sat in on a stock pitch presented by students in the fund, highlighted in this article: Investment Guru Steve Forbes Impressed by Pitch from Stevens Finance Students. The fund’s mission is to simulate the Wall Street experience for undergraduate students and combine traditional academics with practical learning through hands-on investment management. Additionally, SSMIF senior management hosts informational sessions, such as DCF workshops and Bloomberg walkthroughs, taught in the Hanlon Financial Systems Center. Students are also given the opportunity to gain investing experience by doing their due diligence, equity research, and pitches to the entire fund.
