Humara Haq is a flagship project under the Hopebright Legal Empowerment Foundations. We aim to bring legal awareness in low-income communities to reduce exploitation through empowered children, parents, and youth. We believe that Legal Literacy is the core basis of the survival of our Constitutional Democracy. Our entire judicial set-up functions on the presumption that all people are aware of their rights and are able to approach the concerned institution but this is not the actual reality. In the absence of awareness, the citizens are treated unequally, they do not avail legal facilities and are exploited at all the stages. Lack of education and awareness are the main causes of injustice being meted out to the people of the marginalized class and especially women and children. Humara Haq provides a platform to the volunteers (majorly some undergrad law students), to try and bridge this information gap in the society. Humara Haq is based on the values of equality, empowerment, and equitable justice. This program is quite different from activity-based legal aid programs, this is a system where there is a continuous engagement with the people involved. Volunteers engage with a bunch of students in some schools and visit their community once/twice every week with a new topic, ensuring a continuous engagement. We aim to create a sustainable system where we want legal education to be the new normal in the schools. Through our continuous interventions and the classroom programs in schools, we have managed to train more than 500 individuals (excluding the online trainees in the lockdown period). The project which started in March 2017 at a center in Tughlakabad Extension with 17 girls, reached 25 schools within six months. It has impacted more than 500 families in 11 different communities in Delhi and NCR area. The significant impact can be seen from the brave acts done by our students who have shown the courage to stand up against wrongs on several occasions.
