Vision NDA's tourism activities are life-enriching for the participating visitors as well as their Rwandan hosts. We create culturally engaging, intellectually challenging and very intimate high-value experiences that offer unique insights, educate and provoke. We also provide numerous opportunities for meaningful empowerment, sustainable economic development, poverty reduction, reconciliation and enhanced cultural pride. Our vision is to make a meaningful difference that ensures that the new dawn is followed by a bright day. 1.2. A brief history of NDA NDA was founded by Anny Batamuriza, Dr. Michael Grosspietsch and Rica Rwigamba in February 2007. It soon became and remains Rwanda’s most innovative tourism company, but its activities moved far beyond the initial ideas. Creating a true social enterprise with a diverse portfolio, Dr. Grosspietsch, the Director General, established partnerships with a variety of national and international individuals, organizations, companies, universities and public institutions. Highlights were the start of the cooperation with the UN Millennium Villages Project in April 2007 and the management of the first delegation of the People to People Ambassador Programs that included the visit of Mary Eisenhower, granddaughter of the former US President Dwight Eisenhower and President of People to People International, in September 2007. On the tourism side, NDA currently works with over a dozen international tour operators, NGOs, institutions, universities and churches worldwide that send groups of visitors to Rwanda. The focus is largely educational, and each group usually comes with a special theme. Subjects of interest are very diverse and include health, education, religion, law, social work, nature and conservation, photography, sports, or general society and culture. Sometimes, themes are even more specific, such as “Bringing Christmas to the children of Rwanda”. Additionally, NDA specializes on excursions to a variety of projects – both our own tourism-related projects as well as those of our wide network of partners. Clients for these excursions usually include individuals or groups of independent visitors to Rwanda that hear about us through word of mouth, find our website or read one of our brochures. On the project side, NDA has initiated or joined over a dozen mostly tourism-related development projects in all parts of the country. The goals for these projects are diverse. They usually include income-generating, entrepreneurship-creating and capacity-building components for otherwise disadvantaged communities. Additionally, they might have a focus on natural conservation, the preservation of traditions and culture, or the promotion of reconciliation and peace. Far beyond these tourism-related development projects, NDA also supports the activities of a wide range of partners in development. Our contributions are diverse and include technical support, training measures, the placement of suitable volunteers, research support, the identification of potential donors, networking and general advice.
