Franschhoek Hospitality Academy & Learning Centre
www.franschhoekhospitalityacademy.co.zaFranschhoek, known as the Wine and Food Capital of the Western Cape, boasts a quaint village where a host of award winning restaurants, hotels, guesthouses, local shops, the Franschhoek monument and museum, wineries and arts and crafts are situated. However, among all this beauty is a dire need for trained and skilled professionals within the hospitality industry. There isn’t an affordable institution within this area to provide disadvantaged students/staff the right to a well-recognized education and basic training and this is where the Franschhoek Hospitality Academy & Learning Centre comes in. We have developed the Change4Twenty program which is how we will pilot this initiative. 20 Students, 20 lives to change within a year and our journey begins in Jan 2018 at the Groendal Community and Sports Centre. The training programme for 20 students from disadvantaged backgrounds, will extend over a 12 month period. For eight months, mornings will comprise classroom and practical training and the afternoons will be allocated to on line, digital training. A four month internship will then follow to complete the training. Students will receive training in a wide range of areas including culinary, customer service, front of house, wine, tourism, etc. .
