Seven visionary teachers , the ‘Saptarshis’ established the KLE Society and set up an Anglo-Vernacular School at Fort, Belagavi in November 1916. The Society established its first collegiate institution, Lingraj College, Belagavi 1933, the B.V.Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering at Hubbali in 1947 and the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College at Belagavi in 1963. By 1983 KLE had in its fold 38 institutions across Karnataka & Maharashtra. Since 1983 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Prabhakar Kore, KLE has acquired global reputation and evolved to comprise 250+ institutions with over 1,25,000 students and 16,000 employees. KLE Society provides educational services ranging from pre-school to post-doctoral courses across various disciplines. KLE University for Health Sciences established in 2006 is placed in category “A” by MHRD, accredited at “A” level by NAAC & bestowed with “A” grade by UGC. It has research collaborations with several national and international agencies. KLE has also set up a Basic Science Research Centre for fundamental and applied research. KLE’s Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC, Charitable Hospital, Cancer Hospital and ICU at Chikodi have a combined healthcare capacity of over 4000 beds that includes 1700 free beds. University Sains Malaysia (USM) an apex University funded by Malaysian Government under a MOU with KLE operates an International Medical School at Belagavi. KLE’s B.V.Bhoomraddi College of Engineering and Technology, Huballi has been elevated to the status of KLE Technological University in 2015. KLE is making significant contributions to research in agriculture through its Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) & the School of Agriculture. KLE’s commitment to rural welfare is evident in its expansive, modern network of rural institutions offering services in education (conventional and professional), healthcare and agricultural research. In 2016, KLE Society completed“100 years of Transforming Lives” through Education, Healthcare & Research.
