Wight Community Energy (WCE) is a community benefit society at the heart of developing a sustainable, low carbon, economically prosperous Isle of Wight. WCE manages a 3.95MW solar PV farm called Homestead in Shalfleet on the Isle of Wight, and maintains a community fund, established to support local projects that work towards carbon reduction, energy efficiency and reducing fuel poverty. WCE is a community owned organisation, controlled by investor members on a one member-one vote basis, who receive a percentage interest each year from the profits made from selling the solar power. With recent funding from Power to Change and the Rural Community Energy Fund, WCE is undertaking a number of new projects to deliver community-owned renewable energy and improve energy efficiency on the Isle of Wight.
