Nearly any type of porous material can be studied - catalysts (except zeolites), nuclear carbon, paper coatings, filters, sinters, soil, sandstone and tight-oil shale to name but a few. Simulations of pore-fluid properties include permeability, percolation, tortuosity and diffusion, filtration and thermal conductivity. Highly deformable materials (such as fibrous mats), highly porous (>95%) materials or macro-cracked materials such as cracked carbonate rock are not modellable.
