Berkley Re provides other insurance companies and self-insured businesses with assistance managing their net risk through reinsurance in one of two ways: (1) treaty reinsurance on a portfolio basis, in which Berkley Re agrees to reinsure either a portion of the primary insurer’s business or certain classes of business defined under an agreement known as a treaty; or (2) facultative reinsurance, in which Berkley Re agrees to cover certain risks on a case-by-case basis. Berkley Re operates globally with local experts domiciled in Asia, Australia, Latin America, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
