Shipyard Trust For The Arts (STAR) advocates for the artists with work studios at the Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco, and strives to expand work space for diverse San Francisco artists. STAR defends affordable rents, and has protected the artists from threats of eviction, establishing a community benefit agreement with the master Shipyard developer to guarantee space for the arts and artists in the future. STAR also connects the Shipyard artists to the surrounding Bayview Hunters Point community by offering activities at the Shipyard for the community, and teaching art at local schools, senior centers and other community venues.
