Solpod
www.solpod.com.auSolpod was founded in 2017 by a team of experienced solar executives, members of whom previously founded one of Australia’s largest rooftop solar businesses and have developed over $200 million of utility solar projects. The team recognised a gap in the market where standard solar was not meeting the needs of the commercial and industrial property sector. While the economics of solar can be strong, this may involve taking a 15+year view on the asset, which is appropriate for solar technology but not necessarily the site or owner, who may want to redevelop the site or change the roof sheet in that time. Standard solar cannot be economically removed during the asset life, as the cost of labor to remove it is higher than the value of the used kit. Solpod is developed, headquartered and manufactured in Melbourne, Australia. The technology benefited from the support of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to fast track commercialisation of the technology, and has contracted multiple systems with GPT (one of Australia’s largest property owners), Property NSW (a government statutory body) and Mirvac (a leading Australian property group) Solpod’s technology: - reduces construction time and therefore disruption at site as the system is installed as 12 panel pods - does not require penetrations in the roof sheet for fixing - improves system QA/QC outcomes, as more work is performed in a factory rather than on a roof -is Australia’s only rooftop solar mounting manufacturer. -provides future flexibility, as Solpods can be relocated if required due to future requirements Solpod prefabricates ‘pods’ of 10 panels (4.6kW per pod), which are then trucked to site and craned into position, connecting to pre-installed feet. Solpods are fabricated in a quality controlled factory environment and all pods are tested and tagged before leaving the factory.
