Solomon Street
www.solomonstreet.com.auSolomon Street is a Social business. We support people out of poverty through micro loans funded by eco fashion. As of today, Solomon Street exists as a shopfront in Rundle Mall’s regent arcade. We operate online and sell all over Australia. All our garments are made from either natural fibres, or recycled synthetic fibers. Our swimwear fabric is made from discarded fishing nets, which means that the ocean is cleaned of ghost nets and other plastic pollution, and we are using an existing resource rather than putting more energy into using a non-renewable resource. Our whole process is low waste, which means we avoid synthetic packaging, but if we do happen to receive any, then we dispose of it responsibly through various recycling and composting programs. It has been a huge challenge to apply my personal environmental values and low-waste lifestyle to a business environment. It is deeply important to me that as a business we have a strong integrity around our environmental responsibility, but sometimes this is just not viable in a business environment. I believe that as long as we know that we are doing our best within our capacity to reach our goal of a zero waste business, then that is all that matters. We now manufacture garments in house and with an ethical clothing Australia accredited manufacturer here in Adelaide. Just like humans, businesses are not perfect, and evolve and improve as they grow. My aspiration is that we will be a better business tomorrow, than we are today and every-day.
