The Summer Camp
www.thesummercamp.orgThe Summer Camp, established in 1986, is a nonprofit summer camp for low-income and foster girls. Our mission is to provide girls at-risk, ages 6-16, with a safe and nurturing environment for them to return to year after year to be freed from the pressures they face daily. Summer Campers come to The Summer Camp in Washington, Maine from urban and rural areas of New York and New England. The Summer Camp programs are created to meet the developmental needs of our campers. The girls attending The Summer Camp struggle everyday with parental mental illness, drug and alcohol addictions, and/or physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Each Summer Camp program is a life changing opportunity that fosters the personal growth and aspirations of each child. The Summer Camp has grown substantially since 1986 and plans to continue to provide programs for at-risk girls for many years to come. A Board of Directors, consisting of 20 volunteer members and officers, manages The Summer Camp. The Board of Directors is responsible for creating a mission statement for our organization. They are committed to financing and developing programs to meet the goals defined by the mission statement.
