Women in Maritime Association Caribbean
www.wimacaribbean.comWiMAC is one of seven regional networks of women professionals in the maritime sector established under the auspices of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). WiMAC is registered as a charitable organisation working with women, maritime administrations, shipping industry partners, academic agencies, women rights and gender allies, and other partners in 18 Caribbean countries and territories as a network for professional growth, gender equality in the sector, and the contribution of women to a safe and healthy maritime sector for strong Caribbean societies and economies. Within its overall ambit, WiMAC works, among things to: • Advocate for positive change on issues affecting women and the industry • Contribute/spearhead research and evidence-based development on the status of women across all maritime and allied sectors in the Caribbean • Advocate for the promotion of a Code of Conduct for Gender Mainstreaming in the global maritime sector • Contribute to a research agenda and sector studies of issues relating to the economic importance of the maritime sector and Blue Economy to the Caribbean • Network, support, and mentor women in the sector • Engage in dynamic partnerships with regional and global allies to grow and develop the port and shipping industry and protect the marine environment • Support the development of responsive maritime administrations, enabling legislation and environments that adequately promote the safety and security of shipping, the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution from ships, and the protection of the human element in shipping. • Promote the sector as a viable option for girls and women and young people in general.
