Golden Key International Honour Society, Monash University Chapter
monash.golden-key.orgThe Monash University Golden Key Society is the Monash University Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. The Monash Chapter was chartered in 1996 and since then has grown to over 16,000 lifetime members, encompassing both undergraduates and alumni. In fact, Monash Golden Key is one of the largest student-run societies on campus, with over 1,000 student members participating in dozens of annual events, including community service, careers, social and academic events. We particularly pride ourselves on our community service achievements. Each year Monash Golden Key raises approximately $3,000-$4,000 for a range of worth charities including OXFAM, Red Cross and Ian Thorpe’s Fountain for youth. We also organise an annual Youth Forum for VCE Students. Past topics have included "Poverty: A Global Challenge,” “Climate Change: Our Planetary Crisis” and “Terrorism and its Effects on Modern Society”. Our annual Careers Cocktail Evening (exclusive to members) consistently attracts over 200 attendees including representatives from a dozen or more high-profile companies, drawn by the fact that a Monash Golden Key Careers Evening puts them in direct contact with the top 15% of students. This is an ideal event to kickstart your entry into vacation work or graduate placements. Our largest event, the Reception Ceremony for new members, attracts an audience of over 1,000 people and is held in Robert Blackwood Hall. This is consistently a memorable occasion to celebrate the academic achievements of our new members and inspire them to aim to improve themselves even further. There are a large range of other events that our all-student committee organises, ranging from lunchtime sports teams to free public lectures featuring interesting and distinguished speakers (such as Gustav Nossal in 2006, Dr Graeme Pearman in 2007 and Professor Peter Oyston in 2008).
