This includes access to: • Research funding • Scholarships • Grants • Capacity development support • Mentorship programmes and much more Our research focus areas include: • Centre of Sustainable Livelihoods – focusing on poverty reduction, household food security and malnutrition in Africa. • Centre for Alternative Energy – The TELKOM Centre of Excellence focuses on the telecommunications industry. • Innovative Product Development and Advanced Manufacturing Technology – research on products and procedures that increase efficiency in industrial product development. • Materials and Minerals Technology – focusing on the engineering applications and science of minerals. • Plant Molecular Genetics / Biotechnology – centering on plant genetics, diversity, agricultural productivity, rural development and conservation. • Centre for Renewable Energy and Water – addressing water and wastewater research. In addition, our department includes a Higher Degrees Unit dedicated to: • Strengthening postgraduate administration • National Research Foundation (NRF) administration • Building strong relationships with industry sponsored students • Diverse research focus areas • Funding opportunities • Capacity development support • Postgraduate administration
