Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd

A reduced dependence on fossil fuels worldwide is essential to achieving a more sustainable future. The world’s ability to store and use energy from renewable sources when we need it is crucial to making this vision a reality. As the global demand for cleaner, battery-based energy storage systems and electric vehicles is on the rise, so too is the demand for the battery-quality lithium hydroxide. Currently, however, there is not enough lithium being mined globally to satisfy the skyrocketing demand. At Covalent Lithium, we are excited to play a key role in enabling a clean energy future. We are establishing a mine, concentrator, and refinery in Western Australia to extract, process and refine batter-quality lithium hydroxide. This means we will have complete control over the end-to-end value chain which will deliver significant benefits to the WA economy and the world. The Earl Grey Lithium Project, when constructed, will be a unique, fully-integrated producer of battery-quality lithium hydroxide in Western Australia. It will include a mine and concentrator at Mount Holland (located south of Southern Cross), and a refinery in Kwinana capable of producing approximately 50,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per year. In full production, Covalent Lithium will produce enough lithium hydroxide to enable approximately one million electric vehicles to replace regular vehicles on the road each year. The first lithium hydroxide is expected to be produced at the refinery in 2024. Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd (Covalent) is the manager appointed by a joint venture between subsidiaries of Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A. (SQM) and Wesfarmers Limited to develop and operate the Mount Holland Lithium Project. Wesfarmers Limited will leverage the expertise and chemical processing capabilities within Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers (WesCEF), to support the Project.
