Aitkens incorporates two companies Richard Aitken (Seedsmen) Ltd. formed in 1963 and Aitkens Sportsturf Ltd. formed in 1989 in Yorkshire. The Aitkens companies are a family run business going back three generations. The business was started in Glasgow by Richard Aitken and is now run by his son also called Richard Aitken. Recently joining the family business are his two sons Craig and Richard who are Directors in both companies. The companies have rapidly expanded with Richard Aitken (Seedsmen) Ltd. in 2002 acquiring a 50% share holding in Avoncrop Amenity Products Ltd based in Winkfield (Berkshire) (Later sold in 2017). During 2006 they also purchased Stewart & Company Seedsmen Ltd who have been trading since 1894. Stewarts who were based in Dalkeith in Edinburgh had been a major rival in the sportsturf sector. In 2004 Aitkens Sportsturf purchased the long established company of RE Rushbrooks and Sons Ltd. based in Ipswich. Aitkens now have 19 experienced Technical Sales Representatives. All who have a wide range of experience to offer. Aitkens are now the leading supplier of products to the Sportsturf and Landscaping Industry. Aitkens aim is to supply quality products to the customer with an unbeatable delivery service. The product portfolio now includes over 919 products which are carried at our warehousing which is over 20,000 square feet. Aitkens are also main distributors for companies such as Ruffords, Terralift, ICL (Everris / Scotts), Vitax, Barclays and Bayer to name a few. In recent years Aitkens have launched the Vision range which superseded the Award range. This range offers granular and liquid fertilisers, seaweeds, line marking liquids, irons and wetting agents which have been developed to be the best in the market. This range is set to grow in the years ahead.
