HACAN is a non profit organisation, which campaigns against the disturbance caused by aircraft noise. Our members are now drawn from Windsor in the West to Greenwich in the East and from Mile End in the North to Epsom in the South. Our income comes from our supporters, mostly from membership subscriptions. This enables us to fight although, unlike the aviation industry, we receive no grants or subsidies from taxpayers. However, maintaining the high profile we have achieved costs money so, if you agree with our aim and are thankful for what we are doing, please join us. Where we stand •Having opposed permission for T5 at Heathrow, we're now fighting for the Government to honour the T5 inspector's recommendations, in particular the limit of 480,000 flights per year. •We oppose a 'third' runway at Heathrow. This was another one of the T5 Inspector's conditions. •We will campaign for the preservation of runway alternation, which gives residents a half day respite from noise. •We would like the Government to look again at the current aircraft marshalling paths, and to give some relief to the areas worst affected. •We would like a ban on night flights into Heathrow between 23:00 and 06:00 hours. Ideally, this would apply to the night flying period as defined by the Government (23.00 to 07.00). •We don't think it's fair that the airlines evade paying tax on aviation fuel and VAT on their aircraft. •We believe that the Polluter Pays Principle should apply to the aviation industry.
