Assyrian Student Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
illinois.campuslabs.comASA is a chapter of the Assyrian Student Association of Chicago (ASAC) and we believe we are the generation of change. ASA-UIUC is a student organization that aims to promote the advancement of the Assyrian heritage. We also aim to promote the improvement of Assyrian-American students through higher education, appreciation for Assyrian culture, unity and support for the Assyrian community and to raise awareness of human rights issues. We believe we must positively impact our community by uniting to work towards one common goal; to preserve our heritage, culture, language, and traditions. We seek to accomplish these goals by basing our organization into 4 groups; education, culture, social, and humanitarian. The Education committee will provide necessary tools and resources to help Assyrian students pursue and succeed in their academic careers while educating our generation on Assyrian heritage. The Humanitarian committee will give back to the Assyrian community by providing aid, resources, and a helping hand for Assyrian immigrants. The Culture committee will educate, promote and preserve the Assyrian heritage-focusing on the traditions, the history of the culture, the language, the food and dance. The Social committee will hold formal and informal social gatherings to build friendships and networks within the Assyrian community locally and worldwide. All in all, we hope to provide Assyrian-American students at the UIUC an organization filled with opportunities to advance their educational experiences as well as an opportunity to play a crucial role in the preservation of the Assyrian heritage.
