The Laurens-Marathon School District is a rural district located in north-central Iowa composed of the communities of Laurens (population of 1,476) and Marathon (population of 302). Our school is located in Laurens with all grades located in one building. The communities of Laurens and Marathon take great pride in our school as evidenced by their willingness to support the school and its programs. In 1993, a building project was completed with extensive remodeling to our facility. Both an elementary and M.S./H.S Media Center were results of this project. During 1997, our community again showed their support as a bond passed for construction of a new gymnasium, locker rooms, a multi-purpose room, a new vocal room, and an instrumental music room. This project was completed in 1998. Also in 1997, our voters approved a 10 year Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. In the fall of 2004, the L-M School Board re-instituted an instructional support levy for 5 years which generates significant funds for educational programs. These are but a few examples of how are communities support our school and its programs and truly reflect the thoughts represented by our school mission "Working Together, Achieving Success".
