Vauhti Speed Oy’s roots go all the way back to 1912. It is one of the world’s oldest, if not the oldest, operating ski wax manufacturer. Aulis Tolsa started to manufacture ski waxes together with this brother Valto Tolsa in Virolahti. As Tolsa retired in 1991, Vauhti transferred to the Joensuu region, to the ownership of the ski legend Aki Karvonen. In 2014, Vauhti was transferred to a Finnish family investment company which hired PhD Esa Puukilainen as the CTO. Puukilainen is widely recognized in the field and has researched e.g. in his doctoral thesis the interaction between plastic materials and water, with a ski base as one area of application.
