Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area, Inc
www.bbbs-sac.orgSince 1964, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area has cleared a path to the brightest possible future for youth in Sacramento, Yolo and South Placer counties. Our one-to-one mentoring program benefits children, ages 7-18, raised by single parents, grandparents and foster families. Over 80% of the children in our program come from underserved communities, and 25% have incarcerated parents. Many lack a relationship with one or even both of their parents, and have multiple siblings in their household. These children can sometimes get lost in the shuffle, and don’t receive the focused attention of a trusted adult. Our youth come from all walks of life, but each needs a positive role model to build their self-esteem, enabling them to reach their full potential and envision a successful future. Youth in our program build self-confidence and learn positive interpersonal and decision-making skills to develop into competent, achieving adults. The simplest things, like consistent time spent together, have the greatest impact on a child. By being a mentor, volunteers see the world of possibility open up through the child’s eyes.
