The Centenary Institute is a world-leading independent medical research institute. Our strength is in uncovering disease mechanisms and applying this knowledge to improve treatments for patients and finding cures for some of the most chronic diseases affecting society today. Our research focusses on three main areas in health, including cancer, inflammation and cardiovascular disease. Cancer and cardiovascular disease, which are two of the biggest killers and inflammation is the root cause of many diseases. We are based at the heart of the University of Sydney Campus and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital precinct. We are well positioned to translate our cutting edge research into practice, as many of our senior scientists are also professors and clinicians with direct access to the people our research benefits. Our strength is uncovering disease mechanisms and applying knowledge obtained to treat patients. Our research spans from investigating molecular mechanisms of disease at the single cell level to translational disease models in complex organisms and to clinical trials. For more than 30 years, Centenary Institute scientists have achieved significant breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of diseases such as: • Cancer (pancreatic, liver, brain, blood, bowel) • Melanoma • Cardiovascular disease • Sudden cardiac death • Stroke • Liver disease • Tuberculosis • Allergies • Inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis and asthma. Our ultimate goal is to understand disease and find cures.
