Party In A Box Canada
www.partyinaboxcanada.caWhat do Tiggers and Mallards have in common in the age of Covid-19? Well, Brock and parties, of course. In 1995, Deborah Wallace (Hon. BPhEd ‘97) and Cindy MacDonald (Hon. BA '96) met as Residence Life Staff (RLS) for the newest residence on campus. As the first dons of the “New Rez” (now Vallee Residence) they were able to choose the mascots for their halls. Deb, chose Tiggers and Cindy chose Mallards. Tiggers, or rather their tiger species, are brave, confident and fearless. Mallards are adaptable, calm leaders. In a world of COVID-19, you want both of these on your side. So, Deborah and Cindy have teamed up again after 25 years and have come up with an idea. How did it happen? After years of staying in touch via email and social media, they reconnected in 2019 when an event took Cindy to Vancouver and they started to talk about the similar paths they had taken after Brock. When she graduated in 1996, Cindy began a career in television at CTV as a Production Manager working on Entertainment & Lifestyle productions. After marrying Andrew Hawryluk (BA'98) in 2001 and starting a family, Cindy pursued her career in production and event planning with clientele in the corporate, NGO and private sectors closer to home in Ancaster, Ontario, while raising their two boys. Meanwhile, Deborah spent many years after graduation co-ordinating events for the YMCA. After moving to Vancouver in 2004 she launched The Details Event Planning, and has spent the past 15 years successfully organizing galas for corporate clients and NGOs, while being a mom of two. When the pandemic struck, Deborah and Cindy used their shared interest in event planning to start brainstorming ideas for parties at a distance. The result is Party In A Box Canada: themed boxes delivered to anyone who has a reason to mark a milestone such as a birthday, Canada Day, graduation, etc. They package up the décor, gifts, tableware, treats, flowers and whatever else is needed to bring a smile to someone.
