Bambooka (Eye Wear Africa)

www.bambooka.org

Eye-Wear Africa Ltd is the exclusive distributors of Bambooka sunglasses. This British based social enterprise was formed by a small group of innovative entrepreneurs with a social conscience. The company seeks to use all proceeds purely to the benefit of people in Africa. None of its employees are paid a salary, we are all volunteers. In 2012 we will be helping to establish a plantation of bamboo at Amasame, in South Africa’s Transkei region. We believe that the only way to really help Africa is to set up a sustainable business there, using local resources and skills, to break ongoing cycles of dependency. Our partner charity is Pepe - please see www.pepe.org.uk There currently are 3 designs of Bambooka sunglasses: Sahara – available in Small and Large size (The large size is available in 4 colours: natural bamboo, dark brown, black and red) Zambezi – available in natural bamboo and dark brown Ubuntu – available in dark brown Bambookas are made by real people, not machines or robots, and as such they come with minor irregularities and imperfections. We believe this is part of the charm of Bambooka sunglasses. Bamboo is a strong and completely natural material, as such it deserves a little extra TLC. It cannot compete with plastics and metal frames, but we believe it has much to make up for that in charm and look.
