Present Amsterdam mediates between groups of volunteers who want to put in a day (or longer) for people in Amsterdam with poor health, with low income and who have no social network. You can think of for instance the refurbishment of neglected households of people with psychiatric problems, moving households of single teenage mothers to their new home, cooking for the homeless, pampering women in the Women's Shelter for a day, renovating a neglected garden of people with a poor health, activities with the elderly. Also, you can sign up individually to work together with others on a regular basis. You have to think about forming a temporary small network around someone who is helped and thereby learns to build its own network. But you can also, for example start as a Flex volunteer. Then you can help out with others occasionally, when you want. We believe that people are quite willing to work for others and society. The gap between the willingness and actually take action is for many people (too) large. To bridge that gap it requires a connecting link. Present Amsterdam is that connecting link.
