ABACUS EDUCATIONAL SERVICES (AES) is an organization with a fifteen-year history of implementing school improvement, school transformation, and professional development programs in the third-largest school system in the United States, Puerto Rico Public Schools. Mission To engage our partner schools in a continuous improvement process focused on students’ learning needs, high expectations for all students and teachers, research-based pedagogical practices, and the social and emotional learning of students and faculty to ensure all students thrive in a supportive, equitable, and culturally-responsive environment. Vision To close the achievement gap in the U.S. by concentrating our work in communities serving a large population of English-language Learners and at-risk students. AES helps school districts by: • Equipping school leaders and educators with the skills and strategies needed to incorporate 21st Century innovations across all content areas. • Improving proficiency in literacy, math, and science by developing students’ interests and passions through project-based learning (PBL). • Helping school leaders create a school climate of equity, effectiveness, trust, and growth through the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). • Training teacher-teams to use data inquiry cycles. • Incorporating culturally responsive teaching strategies as a school-wide initiative. • Creating and supporting dual-language programs. • Coaching teachers of English-language learners and Spanish-language learners. • Developing engaging after-school programs.
