Teresa Wicksteed
www.teresawicksteed.co.ukTrained at University College Falmouth, I work from my studio on the South coast of Cornwall in the west of the UK as a professional artist. I have a BA Hons in Fine Art, and an MA with Distinction in English. My work is abstract process-based oil painting. I express through the painting, the energies which rise in me during my regular daily meditation; especially a kind of inner light and lightness of being. My paintings take the viewer somewhere else…to the world of their own imagination. I work in my studio overlooking the sea on the Rame Peninsula in South Cornwall, but much work takes place in my head when I am not painting. I use layers of oil paint, which build up to a translucent finish, I never erase anything, thus the painting embodies its own narrative…the narrative of its making. It is a process of concealment and revelation. I work on a number of paintings together, waiting for each layer to dry, before proceeding. I usually open my studio every year, during an Open Studios event. This recent work embodies energy, change and transformation: moments out of time… inner vision… light, and movement within the stillness of the image. An amalgam and a distillation of experiences: once the making-process has begun, the work takes on its own life. I try to express the transformative energy which comes to me during meditation and the creative process.
