A Home Away From Homelessness
www.homeaway.orgA Home Away From Homelessness (Home Away or HA) seeks to radically alter the trajectory of our students’ lives by providing a safe and supportive environment that fosters their individual strengths, creativity and abilities. Home Away strives to break the cycle of homelessness and hopelessness for young people in San Francisco and Marin. Our mission is to give homeless children and youth a respite from the ravages of abuse, neglect, and poverty to forge a new future. This is done by focusing on addressing the needs of the whole child. We strive not only to improve the academic performance of these youths, but also to immerse them in a structured, adventurous, supportive community that fosters a healthy mind, healthy body, healthy spirit, and healthy community. Home Away was founded in 1994 in partnership with the National Park Service as a respite for homeless children living in shelters. Each year, Home Away serves more than 250 homeless and formerly homeless children and their families in Marin, San Francisco, and Oakland.
