Commonwealth Home Fashions was founded in 1946 by brothers Myer, Jack, Morris, Philip, and Saul Levenson. They named the company after the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Commonwealth Flying Squadron, where Saul served during World War II. At the time, it was called the Commonwealth Curtain Company, one of many department stores in Canada. Commonwealth has experienced many changes over seven decades. It operated two factories in England from 1957 to 1981. In the late 1970s, it acquired Richmark International of Boston and amalgamated the company into Commonwealth in 1995. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, it was Dan River’s distributor in Canada and manufactured parts of the Dan River line for the Canadian market. In the early 1980s, the company began U.S distribution and manufacturing in Montreal and upstate New York. It now works with manufacturing partners in China, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and South America to produce products like fabric window curtains, shower curtains, and pillows. We recognize the need for solution-based products – energy efficient, room darkening, and health benefits. We have developed winning products like Thermaplus Total Blackout curtains and SilverClear – a potent antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of germs and kills bacteria. Please find us at your nearest retailer or online through Amazon, Walmart, Wayfair, Linen Chest, Bed bath & beyond, JC Penny, Hudson Bay, and more.
