Open Source Wellness

www.opensourcewellness.org

Open Source Wellness is dedicated to transforming health care and health outcomes with the communities that need it most. Representing the next generation of behavioral medicine, our “Community As Medicine” approach equalizes accessibility to the behavioral health practices underlying profound individual and population-level health equities. We specialize in partnering with Federally Qualified Health Clinics, low income housing, employers and communities. Open Source Wellness functions as a “Behavioral Pharmacy ” where patients struggling with chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension and depression can fulfill “Behavioral Prescriptions” from their doctors in the form of Virtual Group Medical Visits. These visits combat social isolation and uplift the universal practices that underlie health and wellbeing: MOVE (physical activity), NOURISH (nutrition), CONNECT (social support), and BE (stress reduction). Sessions are led by culturally-relevant health coaches and peer leaders, and include small group coaching. Open Source Wellness's offering is fundamentally experiential: no classes, lectures, or extensive intakes. Instead, we focus on high-quality interpersonal attention, relationship building, and shared practice in a community setting. Open Source Wellness was founded by two clinical psychologists, Dr. Elizabeth Markle and Dr. Ben Emmert-Aronson, who bridge their healthcare expertise with their deep and transformative experience of intentional community, cooperative living, and social/systems design to manifest paradigm-shifting community interventions for well-being.
