Chethams School of Music

www.chethams.com

Chetham's offers an unparalleled music and academic education to 300 of the finest young musicians from the UK and across the world, from its home in the heart of Manchester. Generous bursaries through the UK Government's Music and Dance scheme means that entry to Chetham's is based solely on musical talent, not on background or ability to pay. With places for students aged from 8-18, both boarders and day students, Chetham's is a unique musical community which unites young people from across the world through a shared love of music. Established as a specialist music school in 1969, Chetham's illustrious alumni include pianist Stephen Hough, organist Wayne Marshall, former director of the BBC Proms Roger Wright and BBC Young Musician winners Anna Markland, Jennifer Pike, Guy Johnston, Peter Moore, as well as Young Jazz Musician winner Alexander Bone. Numerous former students work as performers, composers and influencers across the musical world, whilst current staff include professional players from the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata, among many others. In 2017 The Stoller Hall opened at Chetham's - an outstanding new concert hall, with award winning visual design complemented by world-class acoustics by Arup. A home for both student and professional performers, The Stoller Hall provides new opportunities for professional experience and masterclass tuition for its current students, and has invited many former students back as performers and as tutors.
