Villa Pinciana
www.villapinciana.comA great adventure that began in late 90’s, when Ilaria and Massimo Tosato, started to implement their ambitious project: produce new high quality wine in the 60 hectares of land that surround their family home in Capalbio; attracted by the surprising results of the soil analysis : iron, sand and red clay had exceptional potential. The exiting vineyard was then replanted, upgraded and expanded. The vineyard and the winery are located in Capalbio, the Maremma hills in the southernmost area of Tuscany where Ilaria grew up. The hilly terroir, the vicinity of the Tyrrhenian sea, the cool nights create the particular microclimate. Capalbio is now considered the new frontier for Italian wines attracting famous producers and building up a new trend. Villa Pinciana, with a limited production, is a leading quality producer in the area having focused on excellence. Under the guidance of the oenologist, Paolo Caciorgna, and the agronomist, Edoardo Pastorelli, Massimo and Ilaria have accepted the challenge starting from 2003, nine hectares of vineyards were established for the production of mostly autochthonous wines such as Sangiovese , Pugnitello and Vermentino to give a sense of origin to the wines, blended with the main international varieties like the Cabernets, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Viogner. They decided to invest in a high technology winery excavated into the hill which was completed in 2010, operating from the 2011 vintage. The next step will be to expand the vineyard to 15 hectares. The winery is now bottling two red labels and two white, in the medium to high price segment.
