Uncommon
www.bemoreuncommon.comAt Uncommon, we are building a community-led platform to support the mental health of neurodivergent people. And we’re starting at university. Neurodivergent students are 6 times more likely to experience mental health struggles. Only 40% of autistic students complete their degrees. Even when universities are doing their best to support their ADHD, autistic, dyslexic and other neurodivergent students, current strategies aren’t enough on their own. Our Uncommon Solution Uncommon is a community-led platform where students who are diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or wondering if they are neurodivergent can: - Feel accepted and build a network of supporters who think differently - Receive advice from neurodivergent experts - Get support from trained peer guides - Access resources to navigate wellbeing, life, relationships and studies - Explore strengths and interests, and be inspired by neurodivergent role models Who are we? Uncommon is an early stage venture led by Sascha and Kirsten. Uncommonly creative, tenacious and compassionate, they are both driven to create solutions to the challenges they experienced as neurodivergent teens. Sascha comes from a neurodiverse family and is an award-winning experience-designer, with expertise in consumer marketing, immersive theatre and education. Kirsten is an autistic designer, entrepreneur and data geek, with experience building start-ups and new ventures for large corporates. Why Uncommon? 1 in 7 people globally are neurodivergent. That’s 555m people in developed countries, and 497m children and young people globally. Neurodivergent young people are 3-6 times more likely to suffer from mental ill-health and its lifelong effects. We feel now is the time to change this narrative. Our research has shown that if neurodivergent people can thrive if their emotional health, strengths, expertise, and social wellbeing are well-supported.
