Australian Geography Competition

The annual high school (Years 7 to 12) based Australian Geography Competition (https://www.geographycompetition.org.au) assesses students geographical knowledge and skills and encourages student interest in geography and to reward student excellence. The 35-minute Australian Geography Competition commenced in 1995 and is a joint initiative of the Royal Geographical Society of Queensland Ltd (RGSQ) and the Australian Geography Teachers Association Ltd (AGTA). The Competition is held at the end of the first term each year and consists of multiple-choice questions testing geographical knowledge and skills. It is as easy as 1, 2, 3 for schools to run the Competition. 1. The school registers and pays by the end of February or early March for the number of question packs the school requires. The Australian Geography Competition office dispatches the number of question packs ordered to be received by the school about a week before the Competition is to be held. 2. The school has their students sit the 35-minute competition within a defined two-week window and return the completed answer sheets to the Australian Geography Competition Office. 3. The Australian Geography Competition Office processes and grades the returned answer sheets within Australia wide class cohorts and returns certificates and results for each student who has entered. Geography's Big Week Out and Australia's participation in the International Geography Olympiads are supported by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. The RGSQ and AGTA wish to thank the sponsors of the Australian Geography Competition: Flinders University Macquarie University’s Department of Geography and Planning and Department of Environmental Science Monash University’s School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment (Physical Geography) and School of Social Sciences (Human Geography) The University of Queensland’s School of Earth and Environmental Sciences The University of Western Australia
