Ifako-Ijaiye is a city and local government area in Lagos, Nigeria. It has a land area of 43 square kilometers (17 sq mi) and had a population of 427,878 people in 2006. Ifako/ijaiye local government was created on October 1st 1997 by the regime of the late head of state, General Sanni Abacha along with 183 others. The Local Government was carved out of the old Agege Local Government and had its headquarters situated at Ifako. Upon its creation, the then Military Administrator of Lagos State, Col. Olagunsoye Oyinlola appointed Mr. Adeoye Ogundipe a Director in the State Ministry of Finance as Acting Chairman.
